Our 2018 Open House: Showcasing Our
Strategy in Action

This year marks the Foundation’s 50th anniversary, so we’ve planned a series of events and activities to mark this important milestone. On Thursday, June 21, we kicked off this commemoration with our Open House. Located at our partner site Eagle Academy Public Charter School in the District of Columbia’s Ward 8, guests were able to experience our “strategy in action” and learn more about our initiatives in early learning, food security, school-based mental health, family philanthropy and faith-based education.

Guests also had the opportunity to tour the brand new 56-seat early learning center we helped create at Eagle Academy — the first early learning center in a public charter school in the District — and learn how the school is also implementing critical wrap-around supports in mental health and nutrition in partnership with us.

“The Open House was a wonderful way to capture and commemorate our 50-year philanthropic journey,” says Barbara Bainum, Chair of the Board, CEO and President of the Foundation. “We had the opportunity to showcase the heart of our work — the partners who make our work possible and the communities we serve — within a space where some of our work reaches children and families. With its new Early Learning Center, Eagle Academy represents the model we support as a foundation — a continuum of care, education and services throughout early childhood, ages 0 to 8.”
